"Quantum Jump"

23-year-old Martin Rauch is sent to West Germany to act as a spy for East Germany's Secret Service.
East German's Foreign Arm of the Secret Service is concerned by Reagan's "Evil Empire" rhetoric and American military plans in West Germany. East German Secret Service employee, Lenora Rauch, sends her nephew, Martin, to West Germany against his will to become an undercover spy as an aid to a top officer, General Edel. He receives intensive training from field operative Tobias Tischbier, and arrives at the army base under a new identity: Officer Moritz Stamm. His job is to collect intelligence on NATO plans to station American nuclear missiles in West Germany.

Well, this is a good and interesting show. I'm pretty surprised positively, because the main producer of the show is the German (free) commercial broadcaster RTL. And to be honest, I haven't tuned in for German commercial broadcasters for years, because they mostly produce crap and/or are flooded with ads.
Another winning aspect is the fact that I grew up in the 80s and I'm well aware of the basic topic of the show around the Cold War. It feels authentic and when some of the songs come up, I almost feel like time travelling back into the 80s.
BTW, does anyone know the LP "Time" from ELO (Electric Light Orchestra)? That's another perfect way to feel like time travelling back into the time of the 80s ...

ok I saw ep 1 and it was ok, gettng in the office and taking pix was a little over the top, and the atmosphere of the show is almost comical, not serious like the americans.
pop songs of the period were some good one, I think I had the nena album, even liked the german version of 99 luft balloons.

but a more serious tone, and house of cards style sound trak would be better.
plus I have to read the subs instead of just watching.
It is funny to think they thought we would attack them first.

So far I am not impressed with the cast, the best actor is the woman who recruited him.

1) Speaking of The Americans I'd even say there are way more over the top elements. I mean, just remember what crazy things they already have pulled off and never got caught so far ...
What I don't get, why you have the feeling D83 would be "comical". I can't see that at all? Did I miss something?

2) Yeah, Nena had some cool songs ...



3) Come on, no whining! You managed it with Real Humans (have you finished season 2 by now?), so you will with D83.
But now you know, how it is to watch with subtitles. Also, just remember your German roots too ...

4) Well, for them it's funny to think we thought they would attack us first ... it's always about what you're told again and again together with the lack of reliable information. I think D83 does a good job to point out that dangerous uncertainty on both sides, which more than once lead to situations, which could have turned the "Cold War" into a hot one ...

5) Even to me the actors are not that well known, so one has to get kind of used to them. But by now (ep 1x04) I think they mostly are doing pretty well, especially Martin aka Moritz and Linda ... just wait for ep 1x04, which was really good and intense ...
