"Atlantic Lion"

While at a NATO conference in Brussels, Martin gets his first assignment: to seduce and bug the head security analyst’s secretary, Linda.
General Edel and his new aid bond on a trip to Brussels to meet with the top security. Lenora, Martin’s aunt in East Germany, emerges to tell him that his mother needs a kidney transplant. She takes his blood to see if he might be a match. Back in East Berlin, Martin’s fiancée, Annett, moves in to take care of Ingrid and reveals that she is pregnant with her son’s baby. When Martin reconnects with Linda, a secretary he met earlier in Bonn, he sleeps with her and successfully installs a microphone in her desk at NATO. Martin manages to connect the East Berlin Headquarters with the office of the top military security analyst at NATO Headquarters. It’s the first time he pulls off such a complex spy maneuver successfully and he quickly becomes a rising star.

Did you ever listen to autobahn ? I think that was there name. I had several albums,
and I think they were german.

it was kraftwerk ! autobahn was just the one long song.

Also seeing the primitive computers and they had their own which were not compatible with
our floppys. Then is was encrypted lol

he had to buy his own micro phone ?? lol
but I looked your promo for ep 4.5 and it looks like it gets better.

and the walkman ! never had one of those, was it a mini cassete? radio?

Yeah, I know it, but this is already from the seventies, when I was too young to listen to that music.
I actually learned to know the band KRAFTWERK only in the eighties ...

1) Yeah, that was priceless. But as funny as it was, it was actually a huge problem for the Eastern secret services to get the compatible hardware.

2) Those 'Walkmen' came up I think at the end of the seventies or the beginning of the eighties (originally developped by Sony Japan) and I remember well, they were every kid's and youth's dream. It was quite the sensation to be able listening to music almost everywhere while being out and mobile. I was so disappointed those days that I couldn't afford one. The walkman was loaded with the standard audio cassettes and powered by standard batteries.
Deutschalnd 83 is pretty authentic imho, I totally can feel, why Martin is enjoying the walkman that much. For him it was quite a technical sensation, which practically didn't exist in East Germany. In 1985 I visited East Berlin for one day on a school trip, and guess what a simple audio cassette did cost there ... 20 Deutsche Mark (in comparison a complete lunch did only cost 2 or 3 Marks)!!! At home in West Germany a normal audio cassette did cost only 2 or 3 Marks. Those days a simple thing like a bloody audio cassette just was an exorbitant luxury for the citizens of East Germany and the Eastern Block.

Actually those little details make the show that good and worth watching.
It's more realistic imho how Martin was thrown into the situation in that rushed way, because they had quickly to grab the chance to position him there. Of course he has to improvise then, what leads to unexpected complications and almost unblievable problems.
That's imho even better in some way than the Americans (though I like that show a lot!), where they are pulling off these flawless perfect super spies, who are prepared for everything and seem almost invincible.
What is great about both shows is the way they embed both shows into the historical context, I love that!
And well, I think you'll like the next eps ... ep 1x04 is pretty intense already ...

I had to listen to the vid, but yeah I liked that one too,I had 2 of their albums maybe more, I think, I know I still have them.
I loved the first one, and I had no idea till now it was 4 guys using just keyboards !

I also liked the doors, and just found out a few years ago, that thier keyboard artist also played the bass on the keyboard.
he had 2 sets in one and could play any melody with one hand and the bass with the other !
I found that amazing.
Kraftwerk each played a single instrument.
Their music had a nice sound to it and not a lot of singing, which I liked.
It is hard to find good instrumental music.

Yeah I never got one, so I guess I could not afford one either, but also at that time
I was usually in my car and I had the latest 8 track player !!!! and some good speakers!
Then I had a record player and Radio at home !
The only problem was coming up with the cash to buy albums or 8 track tapes!
Later on pawn shops started trading 2 for 1 and they sold them for $2 each so then I could
buy more albums or tapes.
It is a drag that all that technology gets abandoned !
1st was 8 trak tapes and players, then cassetes, then now I have still a bunch of things on vhs tape, but my vcrs are about wore out, and they dont make video recorders anymore, just video players.
I may have to get one of those.
I think dvd's are the next to go, and it will just be usb albums and movies etc.
I think I would like that as they are small ,.dont scratch or go bad, and easy to use, and you dont
need a player just a computer.
