"A House Divided" - When an unknown entity prevents The Machine from seeing the full picture of an impending catastrophic event, it sends the team five separate numbers to help them piece together the bigger picture. Meanwhile, Root's team of hackers arrives in New York, on PERSON OF INTEREST, Tuesday, May 6 (10:01-11:00 PM ET/PT) on CBS.

Wow, awesome episode! I think (we) all underestimated Vigilance.
I've really had quite some sympathy for their cause anyways, but now with the knowledge about Collier's backstory it does make sense.
I still don't like their methods, but on the other hand how could you resist something like "Control", which is the master of unscrupulousness?
And let's be honest, Root's "Goodess", The Machine, was always part of that by giving the relevant numbers. And we do know that the Machine had been fooled by Control at least several times, when they manipulated data, so that the Machine provided (relevant) numbers for people to be killed, just like Control wanted. Think of the scientists, who were just killed, because they knew about Northern Lights, or finally of Shaw and her partner, who were set up as corrupt and as having contact with terrorists, so they could be officially terminated, only because Shaw's partner found out that they were manipulated.
In the end Vigilance is right. No matter, if it's Samaritan or The Machine, this has to end. Even Harold said to Greer, it's hybris to think to be able to control something powerful like Samaritan or The Machine. And what if the AIs finally decide that the human race itself isn't worth to be saved ...
So lets hope Vigilance actually manages to go public with their "trial". Let's see how the sleep walking public will deal with the hard facts of having a ruthless surveillance state and the "collateral damage" that already happened.
Finally I think, the end of PoI has to be the shutdown of The Machine (and Samaritan of course).
(But this should not happen before season 8 ...   )

1) Yes, I think so. Samaritan is told by Greer/Decima to locate "team Machine" and Samaritan just is doing his job ... locating them ... How they are exactly called - like "threat" by Decima or let's just say "persons of interest" -, actually doesn't matter.

2) Ok, let's say it by Greer himself in ep 3x22:

Harold: "What is it you expect from Samaritan?"

Greer: "I want to live under a more just rule. Samaritan will never sleep with its secretary, or embezzle money from its campaign fund.
Its decisions will be based on pure logic. Now... that's a leader deserving of our vote."

I'm not sure though, that Greer can be trusted at all ...

I need to watch again, but I think greer said he did not want to control Samaritan.

so ...I am still wondering what reason he has for doing all he has done.
People usually have a goal and reasons, but we have not been given any goals or reasons for decima's actions, and
also is greer the top guy of decima or just someone hired to do a job?
What is his background?
I hope we get some answers.

About Root's name, at epguides.com she was listed as robin groves for awhile.
I need to maybe watch the ep with her backstory, which one was that??
was it a early S-2?
the one where they show her in school and her friend or her is taken. what ep was that?
All my POI were on the drive that went bad! so I would have to get it again.

1) Root's real name always was Samantha Groves.
She never was called "Robin Groves".
But when Root was at Stoneridge Hospital as the patient of psychiatrist Dr. Ronald Carmichael at the beginning of season 3, Harold got her there under the alias Robin Farrow.
So I think you just mixed something up here.

The large batch of numbers really threw me. I was surprised that the General was helping Shaw. I figured Hersh had to show up, he had been busy I guess. Shaw called him George. Now we know his first name. George Hersh. Well getting him to help free Finch, Greer and Control will be interesting. Vigilance has the upper hand now. But was amazing Ma'am Control was going to work with Greer.

We see how Peter Brandt lawyer becomes Peter Collier. But who text him back in 2010, after his brother Jesse had committed suicide? I figured that Aziz Al-Ibrahim wasn't bad. And I should have caught about Jesse being clean for almost 2 years. He was Aziz sponsor. Nice Aziz gave Peter his coin.
The trial at the end of all the pertinent people would be interesting. But Congressman McCourt is missing for one. Also where was Zachery? Greer's,"Reese or Hersh"??
They do a good job of moving our 3 "Angels" around together. All 3 work alone or you have one alone(Shaw) and the other 2 together. Last week it was Root and Shaw some and Reese alone.

When Root worked for Special Councils office, she was called Miss Groves. What first name, if any did she use there?

If I remember well, Root's alias there was "Miss May" without any first name used ...
