| Wow, what a weird and weak ep was that??? Again lots of spiritual crap and visions, Floki totally getting on my nerves and then they kill Athelstan in such a poor way and just show Ragnar burying him ... wtf???? It seems this season they want to make me drop this show. Right now I don't even care, that Vikings has been renewed for a 4th season, because I'm not sure that I will watch ... damn it ... what a waste ... | |

| I agree, I haven't liked the drop in Floki's character, I really liked him in the first season. Crappy way to send out Athelstan. And why would Ragnar kill the survivor of the Wessex raids, to try to cover it up? His people will find out eventually and I think the one Earls kid already knows, based on the way he reacted to Ragnar's lie about the settlement being fine. | |

Exactly! They probably just wanted to show how much Ragnar is fixated on attacking Paris, so that he would not be forced to fight Ecbert first, if the Viking people knew the truth. But this doesn't work for me ... I just start to really dislike Ragnar too now ... well, there's been more already, like how he treats Lagertha regarding her beef with Kalf ... also just to get more ships and men for the attack on Paris. No, I more and more dislike the direction of the characters and of the show ...

| Hirst is the show runner, and if you read some interviews he is having now, he is a idiot ! His reason for killing off athleston was mumbo jumbo. A wanted to go do another show or movie, but you dont kill him off, as he was a popular character. I think hirst is doing his own version of WD and just wants to kill some people off . Problem is it is in weird ways for silly reasons. And ragnar killing the old guy was just poor writing, and I wonder if hirst knows we are supposed to like ragnar?? | |

| many did not like this ep, some even thought A might still be alive or resurrected ! lol
but I want to see not this type stuff but ragnar go to take paris, and take revenge on ecburt , and just more of a simple adventure story and some better drama that does not make us dislike main characters or kill them off.

I've read Hirst's interviews now. http://www.zap2it.com/blogs/vikings_michael_hirst_born_again_death_changes_ragnar_forever-2015-03http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/vikings-athelstan-dies-784676And I have to say, I'm really getting tired of that bullshit reasons to kill off major characters (not to say, sometimes and when done in consistency with the storyline, I can accept that like with Carter in PoI). No matter what show, it's more or less always the same crappy bla bla ... "loved the character ... writing him/her off is the toughest decision ever ... but it had to be ... for the sake of huge impact on the show's future" ... etc. etc. bla bla bla And it doesn't sound like the actor wanted off the show at all. Hirst deliberately "killed" Athelstan, he even fealt the need to explain it to the actor with a five page e-mail ...

| yeah siggy I read wanted off the show for family reasons, so even so they could hav ecome up with a more sensible reason for her to die.
But with A he just felt like killing him off, and since he has killed off 3 original characters this season, and may do more, I feel like he is copying WD
On chicago fire they decided to kill off someone and wound up picking lauren, even though she was popular with fans. The reason was they just wanted to kill someone, and it was also a silly death where a building collapsed at end of one season, and then when new one started they find her and she is dead lol boy that was exciting !!!!!!
And the athlestan was silly, he acted like he knew floki was coming and ok good your here kill me ! And floki had a reason, but only he knows the reason lol and somehow no one could even see him as he went to do it.
Show runners are invariably messed up in the head, one way or another. I think this guy success went to his head so now he thinks he is this great writer, when really it was the cast that made the show good, and now lol he is killing off that cast !
Another example is JF killing derek and thinking that is ok, cause we get derek back in the finale! to him it was the same as the other derek, but to fans it isnt, and he did not understand that, which shows how he is thinking on a different level than the people he is supposed to make happy.
I will continue with vikings but so far I have not liked this season all that much.
Having ragnar kill the old guy is like having john connor kill the wall guy, or nikita kill birkhoff lol it just doesnt make sense in that ragnar has to be likable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think hirst is doing his own version of WD and just wants to kill some people off . Problem is it is in weird ways for silly reasons. : (Side note: What's "WD"?--probably totally obvious...) Athelstan was one of my main reasons for watching the show. He was the only one living among the Vikings who seemed "normal". Floki went "bye-bye" LONG ago and even Ragnar gets loopier with each episode--tilting his head enigmatically, not answering people, wiggling his eyebrows...that's acting? No. I kind of wish Rollo had taken over. Or Lagertha. Anyway, we're shown just how selfish Floki's real reasons were for killing Athelstan in the "Paris" ep. No, it's not to please the gods; it's his own envy and vanity! He goes totally nuts over Ragnar's decision to put him "in charge". He doesn't see that Ragnar was playing him, forcing his insanity out for all to see. This show is one of the ones I watch mainly for the costumes, set decoration and gorgeous scenery. It's like a History Channel documentary but with better recreations.

| (Side note: What's "WD"?--probably totally obvious...) Sorry, that is short for walking dead, they like to kill characters off and they get good ratings so they think it is a good thing.
Now I think other shows think they can get better ratings by killing off characters even fan favorites.
To me if you want better ratings, write better shows and story arcs, make good characters.
And if your going to kill one off do it in a manner where it means something, not just out of the blue and in weird way.
Now floki has not liked A for a long time, but him deciding to kill him, and was invisible in doing it was just a little weird lol, and the A was like happy and ready to die, and knew it was coming. It did not make sense.
