ok this was the finale, and was ho hum, Battle scenes were not the way it would actually happen. That was more a brawl than strategy on either side.
King Ecbert wanting to die make about as much sense as Ragnar wanting to die, which is not much lol.
Ivar kills his brother, wants to keep raiding, bjorn wants to go to Mediterranean and do what? his last trip was a joke. Now in real life this would all be different. But with hirst, the end of this says it all, he has 2 people we dont know having sex, and I guess that was supposed to be exciting?? Then the name on the sword, which was also meaningless.
Helga now falls to the mighty sword of hirst !! only 4 left from original cast, lagertha, floki, rollo, bjorn.
Thing is I would have rather seen a show that was just about ragnar, and after 5 years or whenever it ended, then they could do the sons etc. To me the show is over, I might watch S5 just out of curiosity, but I am fairly sure the new actors and characters wont be as good.
I wonder the reason for killing helga? was she due a raise in S5? Did she want off the show??

Well, I agree pretty much with what you said. Out of the blue Ivar is a military genius now ... jeez. With all the weird crap and crazyness of season 4B they practically managed to ruin the show for me. The only reason why I might keep watching, is that I can't wait to see the vikings' asses kicked finally by the Saxons. That guy in the last scene - let's call him "war bishop" because of his ominous sword - probably will play a role there. Though I agree, introducing him with this ridiculous sex scene was one of the dumbest "cliffhangers" I've ever seen ... Ecbert's death seemed stupid first, but on second thought he actually might have out-smarted the vikings and even Ragnar in the end. His paper, which granted the Vikings land and a kingdom, is worth absolutely nothing, because he alfready has transferred the crown and all his titles to his son Athelwolf, so he's in no legal position anymore to offer a single sqare meter to anyone. But the Vikings don't know yet. Egbert's "deal" though caused Bjorn to back off and concentrate on the Mediterranian Sea again. Thus the "Great Heathen Army" is divided and weakened, what might give Athelwolf and the Saxons the needed time to regroup and built a new army to finally beat the Vikings.
BTW, maybe Sigurd isn't even dead. I read in real history he played a major role, so they still might need his character. But who knows with this crazy writing ... And having Helga killed by her "daughter" imho was just to add some drama, so now crazy Floki can be sent on his final dark path, because now he considers himself as already dead too ...

Well Tscc, we see this show about the same way, I was at imdb, and some felt as we do, but some said S4 was the best ever! lol I also read there ratings had dropped 2 mil viewers, can you get one of those showing all 4 seasons ratings and post here??
To me hirst as the main writer is killing the show, liked JF he is writing the show for himself and maybe to impress his friends or something.
I wanted to See a slow story with ragnar doing things, and the first bad thing was him marrying the other woman, then getting sick, drug addict then disappear, then the suicidal ragnar comes back for S4. None of this was the story I wanted. Basically I wanted more just like S1 with the same actors and characters. I didnt really care about following history.
