Tscc 1000 does watch the show, PM him and see if he wants to discuss it here, he may not have seen your post, he usually does this show on another site.
I saw most of S-1 but could not get into it.

I'm watching.
Usually I'm here to talk about GoT:

http://hawaiifive-0.wikifoundry.com/thread/4560748/OT%3A+Game+of+Thrones

I don't/didn't read any of the books. The good thing about that is, that it's way more full of suspense for me to watch.
Imagine, how my jaw dropped when I saw the "Red wedding" ep e.g. ...

The end of the episode with Tyrion was word for word from the book, I loved it!

Ep 4x06, to be exact Tyrion's trial was one of the best sequencies ever in GoT. Peter Dinklage was outstanding here. I think he deserves some kind of TV award for that!
Scenes like that are the reason, why GoT still is a must-see for me ...

Game of Thrones Season 4: Episode #6 Clip - Tyrion's Breakdown (HBO)

Ep 4x07 could not match 4x06, but was good. Arya on her revenge tour gets scarier and scarier and Littlefinger still manages to surprise me. What a final scene of ep 4x07!! I'm just glad that I haven't read the books yet, because if I had known, what was coming, it would have been a far less jaw dropping moment!

Game of Thrones Season 4: Episode #7 Clip - Lysa Confronts Sansa (HBO)

Also the conversation between Oberyn and Tyrion was pretty intense ... and Oberyn is willing to be Tyrion's champion ... wow ...

I think this was the best episode of the series, I have been waiting for this battle all season, I was not disappointed at all, lived up to the books very well!

Sorry, but I wasn't that thrilled (but don't know the books either), and imho I wouldn't consider it the best ep of the whole series at all.
Ok, ep 4x09 for itself was the expected solid battle ep with lots of fights, the usual brutality and some nice CGI effects like the mammoth (only 1??) and the giants (only 2??).
But on the other hand they had to go through 15 minutes of (not very meaningful imho) talking first. And after all, what did this ep actually contribute to the progression of the plot? Other than the often compared Blackwater Battle in season 2, which ended with a big game changer in favor of the Lannisters, not much really, obviously, other than Jon Snow joining the League of Assassins to kill Mance Rayder. But seriously, how's that supposed to work. Kill Mance Rayder amongst his huge army of 100.000 wildlings? And even if the number of 100.000 wildlings is said to include also all the family members and their caddle (:-)), there should be tens of thousands of warriors. So why did the Wildlings only attack with so limited forces? Tens of thousands should be able to overrun a few hundred of the Night's Watch. Especially, why didn't they keep up to support the one giant, who was even able to open that massive gate to the tunnel through the Wall? And why weren't we allowed to see the giant's fight at the inner gate?
Also, nothing about the White Walkers again. I mean, after all, they are the one reason, why the Wildlings desperately try to cross the Wall and get into the South, aren't they?
I'm afraid now that there's simply not enough time for the season 4 finale to deal with even only the most important plots satisfyingly a the same time.
So I'll have to wait and see, where the showrunners set the priorities in the season 4 finale. But it's possible, that there might be some disappointment too ...

The seasons flow like the books, you never get resolution to all the plots. This is the end of the third book, with 4 books still to go.

I totally see why someone could love the battle scenes, because yes, without a doubt the execution was pretty good for the "small screen" (still there was the 15 minutes bla bla at the beginning of the ep  Wink ).
But ... I do not expect resolution to all the plots, I just would like some kind of progress at least some times. And this is obviously an issue that not only I have with GoT. I admit, the often excellent dialogs and the good settings mostly cover up pretty well the lack of progress, and I'm still well entertained most of the time, but quite some times after having watched an episode, I feel kind of "betrayed", because actually almost nothing happened ... like in this ep. Of course there was a big battle with losses on both sides (honestly none of these losses was barely more than cannon fodder considering the little screen time any of them had ... well, maybe Ygrette was a bit more of an actually introduced character), but actually we are at square one again at the end of the ep ... the wildlings threaten to attack the Wall ... ok, and Jon decides to go on a suicide mission, well ...
Not to be misunderstood, I don't want to belittle anyone's love for the show or the ep, I just wanted to explain, why I personally had some mixed feelings though also for me it still was a solid ep (as usual with GoT).

Your right, the story progresses really slowly, it drags out even worse in the books, and no hard feeling, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think Pyp and Grenn were sad deaths, they have both been around since the first season. I don't want to say to much so I don't spoil you but there were little foreshadowing seeds in the ep setting up things in the future. Very Happy

Good finale, waiting until next Easter for the new season is gonna take forever. The story is all over the map, where it ended with Bran is as far as George R.R. Martin has written so far, so all of his story will be new to me. The Kings Landing story is at the beginning of Book 4, The wall story is still at the end of book 3, and Dany's story is into book 5, by the end of next season the show should catch up with the books, which means Mr. Martin better get writing, lol.

Well, we all knew that Tyrion wouldn't die, but ... HE KILLED HIS FATHER ... Tywin is gone!!! Wow, I'd rather have tipped on Cersei to be a goner ...
Even in his last minutes he couldn't help being that cruel and arrogant ass to his son, so he had it coming ... looks like Tommen needs a new "Hand of the King" now.
Impressing, how the Lanisters' world has fallen into pieces now by the end of S4 compared to the end of S3 ... I think S5 will get pretty chaotic.
Also, I think that only 10 eps per season are not enough. With that lot of parallel plots, the show more and more lacks of adequate progress as a whole. By the end of S4 it really feels kind of disjointed and going nowhere.
Especially Dany's story, which I almost liked the most in S3, now is feeling sort of senseless. Or Bran's story still is boring and doesn't fit into the greater picture at all (though the fight with these skeletons out of the ice looked great for the effects!). Additionally Brienne's fight with The Hound imho was one of the most stupid and senseless fights of the show ever. Arya obviously also turned into a little heartless bitch.
Last but not least Stannis had his comeback. I hope he finds a reasonable agreement with Mance Rayder, because honestly I'm far more on the Wildlings's side, who just run for their lives and want to get South beyond the Wall, because of the threat of the White Walkers, who hopefully will finally get some screen time in S5 (dammit!).
And yes, now the TV show starts to catch up with the books, Martin better gets his ass up and continues writing instead of travelling around in talk shows or whatever else ... ;-)
Nevertheless, ep 4x10 imho was the best besides the one with Tyrion's trial ... but yeah, we have to wait almost a year for S5, which again will only consist of 10 eps ...

I hate only having 10 episodes, there should be at least 13, I am assuming Bran is important, with battling the Walkers, but I don't know for sure since his story is caught up with the books, it feels like George R.R. Martin is just delaying bringing Dany across the Narrow Sea(Especially in the books, she is one of my favorite characters but her chapters do get boring because it seems pointless for her to rule some pointless city in Meeren, get your ass to Westeros already!) LOl
